What to Watch Today

U.S. equities extended their advance on Friday, with the S&P 500 (IVV) adding 0.55% to close out a week in which large-caps outpaced most other risk assets. International markets outperformed the U.S. on the day, as Developed ex-U.S. equities (EFA) climbed 1.01% and Emerging Markets (EEM) rose 1.09%, both benefiting from a pullback in Treasury yields off their post-2007 highs near 5.18%. Fixed income posted modest gains as rates eased intraday, with the U.S. Aggregate Bond (AGG) up 0.18%, though the index remains down 2.18% year-to-date given the broader rise in yields this year. Broad Commodities (DJP) was the session’s outlier, falling 0.79% as crude oil sold off sharply on optimism around a potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, with WTI dropping over 2% even as the broader commodity complex remains up more than 40% over the trailing year.
