  Prior Prior Revised Consensus Actual
Initial Jobless Claims 1.427 Million

1.413 Million

1.375 Million 1.314 Million
4-week Moving Average 1.504 Million 1.500 Million   1.437 Million

Initial jobless claims came in at 1.314 million, less than last week's 1.413 million (which saw small downward revisions). This is 60K less than the consensus estimate of 1.375 million and the 14th consecutive weekly decline.  The 4-week moving average is now down to 1.437 million but still well above historical averages. Continuing claims also fell to near 18 million.

While initial claims and continuing claims are moving lower, recent spikes in covronavirus cases has some regional economies slowing their reopening plans which may cause these numbers to flatten or potentially rise.
